Best powder foundation for mature skin

Aging skin, as we all know, needs extra care and I think you all agree that after a certain age it becomes more difficult to find your perfect foundation formula.

The appropriate foundation for aging skin should provide coverage that doesn’t look like a mask but gives the complexion a healthy, illuminated, and more natural look. It should be a product that doesn’t dry as older skin is already drier, smooth the fine lines and wrinkles instead of making them more visible. And not in the least, to cover all aging skin imperfections such as red blotchy patches, discoloration of the skin, age spots.

You should choose a formula that also has a higher SPF protection to avoid further cellular damage to your facial skin.

When it comes to choosing what type of foundation formula should you choose from the multitude of products on the market, a question comes to mind: is a liquid formula better than a powder foundation for mature skin? Should you choose a stick foundation or a tinted moisturizer?

We have tried and tested different products to help you decide on what you should try next time you buy your foundation for aging skin. In this article, we have approached the topic of powder foundation formula.

What is the powder foundation?

Powder foundation is a colored loose powder that offers coverage to your facial skin, acting as a foundation. It is suitable for everyday wear, is lightweight, and gives you a natural look. Due to its texture, this formula is very easy to apply to the skin.

Benefits of using a powder foundation

Why should you choose a powder formula for your foundation? What are the benefits of using it? Well, the powder foundation contains minerals. These minerals are known for their positive effect on oily skin, controlling the sebum excess. This fact makes it a good choice for people suffering from acne.

Being a powder, this type of foundation doesn’t cover the pores on your complexion.

If your skin is sensitive, the minerals in the powder have a soothing effect.

Powder helps your skin stay dry and avoid perspiration in hot weather or humid conditions.

How to apply a powder foundation

To apply this type of foundation, you need a good quality make-up brush that will give you the perfect finish. Tap a bit of loose powder into the foundation’s lid, and with a swirling motion, pick up the powder with your brush. Tap the brush on the packaging to get rid of excess powder, then start to apply it to your skin.

Move the brush in a circular motion, focusing first on the areas that you want to cover the most and continuing until the product is evenly spread on the skin.

Depending on how much coverage you want, you can choose to add more powder and continue to blend it in.

Is a powder foundation formula suitable for older skin?

Powder foundation is suitable for sensitive, mixt, and oily skin. People with dry skin might find that the powder has a drying effect, and a liquid foundation would be more suitable for them.

If you wonder about the suitability of the powder foundation for aging skin, you need to know that the powder shows fine lines and wrinkles, and it can accentuate them rather than covering. Some of the ladies who have tried this type of product noticed that the foundation powder made them look older than their real age due to the power setting on the fine lines.

Having said that, if your skin type is oily- yes, even in your 60s or 70s, you might find that this type of powder is beneficial for you. If that’s the case, have a look at our recommendations.

As we have shown you, there are plenty of good products on the market. Each one offers something different than the other. If you liked the idea of one of the products on our list, please feel free to click on its photo. This will take you straight to the online shopping platform. You can also find these products in the brand shops, online, and even in makeup artists’ studios.

In terms of how suitable they are for mature skin, most reviewers agreed that the best products were the ones that offered sun protection, like the Eau Thermale Avène High Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50 Sunscreen does. Others prefer La Mav Anti-Ageing Mineral Foundation Powder because it contains anti-aging minerals and provides a smooth finish even for mature skin.

My personal favorite is SmashBox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder, as it keeps dry skin comfortable during the day, offering nice all-over coverage.

We recommend trying and testing a powder foundation and discussing its suitability with your beautician if you are unsure whether to buy this type of product.

Some clients said that they couldn’t find a powder foundation suitable for them and would have loved to use something that can give a natural look and take a break from using a classic foundation. We recommend the use of a tinted moisturizer to achieve this look. (More information can be found in our article about the best-tinted moisturiser for older skin.)
